Still alive

09-06-11

Intersting times with earthquakes, hurricanes and such, but still cranking along.  Big goal is <200 punds by my birthday wich is 59 days from today.  I weighted 214.2 (again) yesterday, so that is 0.275 pounds per day or about 962 calorie deficet per day.  Doable with effort.  No beer (except for speacial occasions) until goal is met.

going to be rainy this week, so I'll be hitting the erg.

Food log of the food I ate TODAY;

1 cup Kashi w/ milk
coffee
kashi bar- 140
yogurt - 140
PORK CHOP/STEAK/RICE

Good Erg work out

Smaller portions of stir fry- still too much

Crow sized ice cream

nice day

Be seeing you

Still here

Still here still riding, but with hurricane coming I may have to move inside for a bit

Slowly but trying

I have to stop drinking so much beer!!! My weight stayed steady at 214.2 even though I ate well and rode a bit. The beer is killing my quest. That said, with the wife unit coming back tomorrow (YEA!), the comsumption of hops will decrease.

Don't press the wrong button on your Garmin. I wanted to do a hot lap but at the start I hit the Start/Stop buttonn instead of the Lap button. D'oh! The Garmin thinks I time traveled to the end of Rousby Hall.

Eat too much and guess what...

YOU GAIN WEIGHT!

214.0 100% due to eating way too much of the wrong foods. Dinner Saturday was brown food. Fried Shrim, Chicken fingers, and fries, last night was a cheeseburger, tots and beans. Sometime last week was a whole pizza. Gee, think I eat to much?

Anyway back on the bike today. Did rocket stuff Saturday, and did a lot around the house Sunday, so I do not feel bad.

Let's see if I can turn this trend around.

Good, bad , and almost ugly

Good- yummy tuna at the salad bar here at work

Bad- Tuna may have been not so good quality wise. HORRIBLE heart burn during the ride. May have also been the Venti Blackeye I downed just before heading out.

Almost Ugly- Just about left said tuna on the side of the road, but I cut the ride short instead. I can see puking due to hard intervals (been there) but not due to eating stupid.

Except for the almost puking the ride was ok. The speed sensor on the Garmin hosed up so my spped data is hosed for the first part of the ride. I set the Garmin to get speed from the wheel instead of using the GPS, so when the sensor shifted everything went wack.

Next ride will be with no prior tuna or coffee. We shall see how that goes. Off today to pick up the boy.

So what did I do?

Well, a lot, and then again, not much.

After work (wouldn't life be easier if you did not have to work?) I went north to Prince Frederick to get bird food and a hair cut. After getting home, I fed the birds and took care of the boys Hermit Crabs (still creepy). Once that was done I went to dinner at my buddies house and had very good Meatloaf, Mashed Potatos, and beer. There may have been some salad nthere also. After dinner, I took care of the birds (Monday night is a bigger cleaning effort)and talked to the wife unit who is curently in Idaho. Then bed.

See, a lot, but then again nothing.

I do want to ride today. Weird smoke /haze hanging out from a fire down in Virginia. Not a health concern.

Plan on taking the blog "public" soon. Need to be more witty!

< 210 LBS. YEA!

209.8 Loss of 1.6 last week. It will be nice to see how much I can lose if I am not drinking so much beer.

Not a bad weekend, went to a great resturant called Red Red Wine Bar in Annapolis. Good food and great waitstaff. Pricey, but the daughter and boy friend picked up the tab. Thank you.

Here is my ride yesterday. HOT, HUMID. I am working on my pedaling and position. Really want to do a 20+ just to pass that milestone. Tomorrow looks good. I do need to determine my real max heart rate so I stop freaking out when my HR is 159 which is like at 93% max. I can susain that for a pretty long time so I do not think my max is really 172 BPM. 220-age. There is a way to do it on the erg, but it is painful, so I am not looking foward to it.

In the fun news, it seems that I have a hernia.  Not the "turn your head and cough" typle but a Epigastric henia.  May or may not need surgury.  Appointment on the 15th.

First garmin ride

Well that is kind of neat.  I felt like poo after the ride, not sure why.

The lost weekend

Family went out of town Friday, so I took a bye weekend.  I did get to deliver my Mom's remains to Quantico National Cemetery.  That went well.  I also worked a TON on my large Level 3 rocket That I plan on launching this fall.

Monday a.m. weight:  211.4 not as bad as I expected < 200 is a good goal.

Food today (will update and may lie)

Grape Nuts w/Blueberries and a bit of sugar
Banana
Kashi bar - 140 cal.

Lunch was a big salad, carrots, prunes, and some blueberries.  Healthy

Dinner was grilled cheese, soup and 3 beers

I will do something physical today, but it may be inside due to stupid oppressive heat. Didn't happen

Ride #2

Nice ride today, still hot, but humidity was way down

16 or so miles, under a hour. More accurate measurements to come.  Fairly happy.  I learned about trim shifts, so now my chain does not make so much noise.

Real training will start next week.

Day 1 or so

Ok folks let’s get this started.  After many years I finally decided to get my ass back on the bike for fun and exercise.  More on that later, but first some background on me.
Name: Raymond Wright
Age: 48
Location: Southern Maryland
Married (29 years), 2 grown children
Weight: FAT! 217 with clothes on. REALLY want to be <200, 190 would be awesome

Exercise history:  I tend to cycle (ha!) between professional couch potato and fairly regular working out.   I was fairly active as a kid , but that waned after I joined the Navy.  I started riding a road bike back in 1983 and loved it.  I rode a lot and did some racing.  2 serious crashes: one that severed my left bicep and broke my collar bone and a second that dislocated my shoulder.  I also had a fun one that opened up a little artery in a finger that bled like a stuck pig.
I stopped biking for a while, couch potato time, then started running about 8 years ago.  Had fun running, lots of races, consistent mid pack racer, but then I developed Plantar Fasciitis a few years ago and it has put me 100% out of the running game.
So I search around and decided to take up indoor rowing and got myself a Concept 2 erg.  I really like rowing and am actually pretty fast.  The best part was that it did not hurt my feet.

This year I got the itch to actually go outside and exercise.  I tried running again with the expected bad results, so I tried riding my bike.
I forgot how much fun bike riding was and I really liked enjoyed it.  The problem was that the bike I was using was a HEAVY mountain bike with road tires and I started missing my old road bike.  So…
After much on-line shopping and reading reviews I went to the Bike Doctor in Annapolis and spent a few hours getting my new baby.  A Trek Madone 3.1, 19 pounds of carbon fiber goodness!

If by any chance you are thinking about getting a bike.  Go to a good bike shop and have them fit you to the bike that is right for you.  It may be cheaper to buy used or new on-line, but if the bike is wrong for you, there is no way you will enjoy it.
Only 1 ride so far, about 12 miles and it was SO nice to be on a real bike again.  Now I have to learn how to ride correctly again.
Enough of that stuff.

GOALS
·         Ride regularly and have fun.
·         Ride in the St. Mary’s Century in September (fast approaching)
·         Lose weight

That’s it for now, more to come.
